Vic’s Australia Story

This post is an entry from Life in Australia Story Writing Contest by Vic Amora.

I went to Australia for a job, and feel so blessed because I dreamt about coming here since I was a kid. The Aussie culture and language has always amazed me, and the year I spent here made a big difference in my life.

At first, I was so shocked with the long drive and with the language. Aussies are good and kind, but sometimes I can’t understand them when they speak too fast. I sometimes got homesick, but God was always there to comfort me, and I always thought of family back in the Philippines whenever I needed something to keep me going. Each time I felt alone, I would just send them messages through Facebook and it helped.

The Filipinos living nearby also made things easier, and I would visit them every quarter to hang out and cook our favorite Filipino dishes. I would have visited more often, if it wasn’t for the long drive getting there, but I did have some other memorable experiences, such as when it rained fish.

I am so thankful to God for the opportunity to have lived and worked in Australia, and to iRemit for being my partner in sending my salary to my family back home.

God bless you and may you continue to be a blessing to others.
