The Pinoy Catholic’s Guide to Catholic Churches and Sunday Mass Schedules in Australia

Say what you will about Filipino time, but if there’s one event Pinoys show up to without fail, it’s Sunday Mass.

The Philippines is perhaps the last predominantly Catholic nation in the world that still actively participates in church rites. For instance, Catholicism is the largest Christian denomination in Australia, but only 14% of its followers regularly attend Sunday services. In contrast, 41% of Filipino Catholics attend church weekly

Now, if you’re a Filipino migrant newly arrived in Australia, going to church can feel like an anchor amidst so much unfamiliarity. Regardless of your personal beliefs, setting foot in one can provide a sense of community and make you feel less lonely.

Furthermore, churches are great for making new friends. As Filipinos tend to gather in them, you won’t lack for opportunities to get to know other migrants.

Fortunately, Australia has over 1,052 listings for Catholic churches. Obviously, I can’t list them all, but here are the ones in AU states where majority of registered Filipinos reside:

Serena joined Remit back in 2016, and has tormented its Marketing Head constantly ever since. To get through the rigors of writing about grave concerns like exchange rates, citizenship requirements, and PH-AU news, she likes to blast Mozart, Vivaldi, ONE OK ROCK, and Shigeru Umebayashi in the background. She does a mean Merida voice in her spare time too.
