Yep, you read that right. A freaking carousel made entirely out of bloody gingerbread, Hansel and Gretel be damned. Apparently, the magnificent monstrosity comprises 750 kg of gingerbread, 300 kg of lollipops, and 100 kg of royal icing. Wicked.
I’m not sure if you can take a bite out of it, though. However, after you’re done with Shangri-la Hotel Sydney’s Festive High Tea this year, you may not have enough room for it anyway.
Scrumptious and Spectacular Treats in Store for Holiday Diners at Sydney’s Shangri-la Hotel
Given the hotel’s track record for mouthwatering Philippine Food Festivals over the years, their going all out for Christmas is hardly surprising. Under the direction of their pastry chef, culinary rock star Anna Polyviou, Shangri-la Hotel Sydney is currently holding their Festive High Tea at the Lobby Lounge.
Technically, it’s actually afternoon tea, what with all the trimmings involved. (High tea, in contrast, is actually a heavy, savory meal.) Think three tiers of savories, desserts, and of course, the quintessential fluffy scones with clotted cream and jam.
Due to Chef Polyviou’s renowned pastry skills, the sweets take centerstage, of course. Desserts like Christmas Baubles, Santa’s Cherry Pie, and the Tropi-Cola Trifle, for instance, are sure to delight the eye as much as the palate.
To top it all off, each table gets its own mini Christmas tree, with a few edible presents underneath. These include ginger ninjas, reindeer lollipops, and golden honeycomb macarons.
