One Stop List of Activities for NSW Easter Weekend 2016

Easter is also celebrated like Christmas in Australia – grand and fun for the children and children at heart.

The Easter weekend starts on Good Friday and ends on Easter Monday. In New South Wales these four days are considered as National and State Holidays making the long weekend a good time for most to spend time with their family and friends.

This time is also the busiest time for domestic air travel as people use this mini holiday to attend weddings and christenings or to see festivals in different parts of the country.

A Festival Village is also set complete with “themed bars, food and market stalls, circus performers and roving street musicians.” There is also a Kidzfest for the children to enjoy.

Easter Sunday 27, March 2016

It’s the Easter eggs, bunnies and bilbies’ time to shine!

The eggs and the rabbits are a symbol of spring in the western world. They both symbolize new beginnings and hope. However, in Australia, the local, endangered animal bilby replaces the traditional bunnies for Easter celebrations.

Rabbits are not local animals of Australia, when they were introduced in the country Aussies quickly found that they are more of a pest eating crops in the farms. So in 1991, the Anti-Rabbit Research Foundation established the bilby as the country’s Easter mascot.

Bilby or bunny, the real reason for the occasion is neither. Filipinos and other Christians welcome Easter bright and early at sunrise.

Attend the Easter Sunrise Service at Sydney Opera House happening at 6am. Be at the Opera by 5am to be seated and ready for mass at 5:30am.
