Adam de Leon is only 11 years old but he has already achieved what most of us would only hope to achieve in a lifetime. A current sixth grade student at Banyule Primary School, Adam was cast by Disney as the young Simba in The Lion King musical. The musical is currently being shown in the Regent Theatre and will run until August 23, 2015.
Dubbed as Disney’s landmark musical event, The Lion King has already been seen by 75 million people worldwide and has garnered more than 70 major international theatre awards. Re-imagined by highly praised director Julie Taynor, The Lion King is set to “redefine your expectations of theatre.” A combination of stunning effects, unforgettable characters, and amazingly beautiful music has made The Lion King a “spectacular theatrical experience.”
Born in San Diego, California to a Filipino-American father and an Australian mother, Adam permanently moved to Australia with his parents and siblings in 2012. Growing up surrounded by his Filipino relatives, Adam has always embraced the Filipino culture.
At the age of 7, Adam was already involved in several theatre productions with STAR Repertory Theater. He has since been involved in various TV commercials and music video. He has already booked a role in a feature film, ETK Experience the Knowing (his first ever!), and the film is due for release late this year. He was also cast in Opera Australia’s King & I last year. He was cast together with Jason Scott Lee, Lisa McCune, and Lou Diamond Phillips.
Adam’s dedication to his craft is admirable. At 11, he is able to balance school and theatre commitments. He spends four to five days or nights at the theatre and still continues to do great at school. Mr. Furness, his teacher, and Mrs. Marmo, principal at Banyule Primary School, have been instrumental in helping Adam to continuously excel at school.
