Have you heard the line, “Para kanino ka bumabangon?” (For whom do you wake up for?). It was used in an advertisement in 2010 by a coffee brand asking Filipinos what’s their purpose on waking up every morning.
Every life has a purpose and it’s our job to find it along the way. Some of you may think that we only have one purpose in life but no, we should wake up every morning with different goals that will improve ourselves to be a better person. If your purpose in waking up every morning is to go to work, go home, and sleep, well, maybe you’re in the wrong side of life.
Our purpose changes almost every day. Sometimes we wake up for our family whenever they need us because time is ticking and we’re all getting old. Our purpose is to be there and seize every moment with them because no one knows when will be the last time that we will be complete.
Some days, you wake up for your kids because they’re rapidly growing and they need your attention. Your purpose as a parent is to let them enjoy life and make them stronger because life is sometimes hurtful and sad. You need to let them understand that it’s okay to be imperfect because it makes us unique.
There are days where we wake up for our life partner, to make them feel loved and appreciated in every way we could. Our purpose is to love them wholeheartedly regardless of their imperfections and flaws, accept them who they are and support them to be who they should be.
We also wake up for our friends because why shouldn’t we? Our purpose is to make sure that they are okay and that we always have their backs just like how they got ours. Because real friends are treasures that cannot be bought or replaced by anything.
And lastly, we should wake up for ourselves, to feed our souls with kindness, love, and adventures. We wake up tougher and braver as we face life challenges. We wake up to leave a mark and to let people know that we exist. We wake up to not just live but to live a meaningful life with a purpose.
Most of us have a similar concept that we live to look for our purpose but what we don’t know is that we live because it’s our purpose. It’s our purpose to exist for others and to make to a meaningful and remarkable life. For us to be remembered and never be forgotten, to live in every moment until we become stories to tell.
“If you’re going to live, leave a legacy. Make a mark on the world that can’t be erased.” – Maya Angelou
